System for the Tote Ten To Follow : 2004 Flat
14 Apr 2004:  The 2004 Flat season would have been the 4th successive Flat season that our free system for the Tote Ten To Follow competition had appeared here online.  However, there was to be bad news for our growing band of followers...

When we first decided, in 2001, to adapt the established principles of our then private, prize-winning NH system to suit the Flat racing competition, it was made possible only because the competition rules were changed for the 2001 Flat season.  The most important change was the decision to start the competition a month later than previously i.e. instead of starting in May, just before the 1000 & 2000 Guineas, the competition would not start until June, just before the Derby & the Oaks.  That subtle change was introduced after a survey of users' opinions, and resulted in everyone having some all-important current form to go on.  However, after three very successful performances by the flat version of the system (during which time it provided lines that could
have finished 1st, 2nd & 1st, worth a total of £317,935 in Flat prizes), the organisers decided, without any consultation this time, to revert back to an early pre-Guineas start.  That earlier start made it impossible to apply the system to Flat racing with the same confident expectations.  That meant no Flat shortlist appeared on this page for the 2004 Flat.

If you want to see our original, detailed background information, written back in 2001, on why an early-starting competition had been, and still would be such a big negative for us, click the "TTF Guide" button above and read the bit under the section headed "Easier than ever to win on the Flat".

So, regrettably, we sat out the 2004 Flat season.  No shortlist appeared below and, hence, no entry of any sort by us.  But we will hopefully see you all at the start of the 2004-5 Jumps' season?
