| Capital Ratings |
|
| Apart from our Tote Ten To Follow system referred to above, and other racing systems we
have devised, we also invented Capital Ratings. These provide an impartial comparison
of the top Flat horses from one season with those of any other season or another generation. |
|
| Conventional form ratings, commercial or official, rely on human memory and somebody's opinion. Because of that, if you try to compare their ratings for the top horses of one season with their ratings for the top horses of a previous season or, worse still, a previous generation, it seems as if little or no regard is ever paid to what we at Capital Ratings believe
is the most interesting factor of all - which is accurate comparability from year to year. Capital Ratings were invented specifically to address that issue. |
|
| Capital Ratings use the standard 140 point scale. 140 equates to a top weight for
Flat handicap races of 10 stones (i.e. 140 lb.) This is the same scale as used by the
top commercial, official and press ratings, so direct comparisons can always be drawn. The difference is that Capital Ratings are not opinion but are a neutral,
numerical summary of a horse's overall career achievement. The ratings automatically place the champions from the current Flat season, in terms of lifetime achievement
at 2 or at 2+3, in a realistic pecking order not only with one another but also with their peers from previous seasons and even previous decades. This is something which other ratings do not achieve with any real consistency. That is possibly because their final ratings are not published until after they have been massaged at committee meetings in order to please the differing opinions of different handicappers who are sometimes even from different countries. That means their ratings are a compromise every year and that could be what
denies them consistency with the ratings of previous seasons as those ratings, in turn, were also compromised. Our ratings are different. What you see
during and immediately after a season ends is what you get, pure and simple. No tweaking, no manipulation, no committees, no compromises. This stability also allows us to publish final ratings well ahead of anyone else's. You can judge our ratings for yourself from the examples next from the last few years or, further down, from the last
few decades... |

STALKERS SYSTEM
 |
|
| |

Some horses like to be held up in touch before mugging the leaders in the closing stages. This is a cheeky way to win a race - and is really frustrating for the hapless rider(s) who've dragged the stalking horse round.

The Smithurst-Martin TIME-SCHEME

|
|
| |

A system for UK Flat racing which steadily identifies horses which have shown class, form and speed, to be followed on their next three runs stop at a win.

This was one of the first ever systems invented by racing analyst D R Martin, based on the work of J Smithurst,
a 1960's speed supremo.

TRUEFORM SYSTEM

|
|
| |

A system for UK Flat racing which steadily identifies 2yo's that win a race which has been run true to form, to be followed on their next three runs stop at a win.

This system was also invented by racing analyst D R Martin many years ago. It uses a novel and effective method to identify 'true form' results. Year after year it pinpoints some fascinating juveniles, and always has a compelling, potentially profitable feel about it.
